Red riding hood

Yes. I have been gone for a long time. Don’t state the obvious. Gosh.

Here are a few recent illustrations I’ve done to compensate for my time gone (seeing as when I did post I’d only post 3 times a year anyway- 3 illustrations=1 year, therefore I’d be making up for my time gone, no?)…

I was planning on inserting speech bubbles, but thought I’d leave it up to the viewer’s imagination instead. You guys tell me; What is Red saying to the wolf?

Some Zenith fan art I drew for talented authors Lindsay Cummings and Sasha Alsberg.

And here’s one I’d done for a story I wrote which as usual, crashed and got deleted. (Also, if I might mention, recently I spilt water on my mac-book and so now ALL my writing is gone.)- the image is a lot more pixel-ish than the others due the fact that it was drawn on the iPad a while ago and I’ve recently acquired a drawing tablet to hook into my computer (thus the smooth lines in the more recent drawings).

More of my work can be found on my instagram @dimitratheperson, where I post more frequently (which stills pales in comparison to your ordinary Instagram user, but …).

‘For darkness shows the stars’ book review

Last year I was required to read Jane Austen’s ‘Persuasion’ for my literature class. Needless to say, it was fantastic. School books are generally the bane of my existence, so when I received my yr 11 book list, I was pleasantly surprised. Jane Austen’s writing is as always a pleasure to read.

For darkness shows the shadows was for me, a beautifully done re-telling of ‘Persuasion’.

Before I’d even read it, I’d come to the conclusion that this novel would no way be as near as well done as Jane Austen’s. Boy howdy was I WRONG. Diana Peterfreund did such an excellent job at bringing her story to life. Although admittedly, the writing DID differ from ‘Persuasion’, that’s not to say it wasn’t excellent in it’s own right.

I really enjoyed how Peterfreund brought something new to the table but still kept in line with the original story, and the  sci-fi, post apocalyptic spin made the read an easy one.

Elliot was a really, very well rounded character. Her maturity and sense of responsibility over the farm and the people working there won my respect. I wish Kai would’ve seen earlier her reasons for staying behind.

“I need to know-” she heard him growl under his breath. “I need to know your mind.”

That part shattered me.

Kai was such as sweet and protective character, who though I’ll admit at times he seemed a bit naive. His relationship with Elliot was at best, a whirlwind of emotions.

All in all this book was fantastic and I would give it a 5/5 stars.

(I suggest you all go read it if you haven’t already.)

(Hey There everyone- sorry I’ve been away for so long. I actually wrote this review at the beginning of the year, and just really never got around to posting it. If you’re wondering at all why I haven’t been active at all lately, it’s due to school and applying to universities, life.. the usual I suppose. Yay for year 12!! Anyway, I’ll be posting more frequently once I’m finished with exams in November. If you’ve stuck around this long, I’m so sorry. I am a horrible person. But now this horrible person must get back to her homework. Cya guys soon…hopefully!! xx)

Pet fish

To those of you who do read my comics/ follow my blog, I apologise for the long hiatus. It’s my last year of high school and the work has taken its toll on me. If all goes well, once I’m done with school, I’ll have more time to make comics. Just one more year.

In the meantime, I know it isn’t much, but I’ll try posting every week as promised.

In other news, I’m also working to write up a comic. It’ll take a while, and I’m not certain whether it’ll even end up actually becoming a reality, I’m just putting that out there. It’s always been a dream of mine to focus on one specific storyline and draw it in comic form. (Most of the time, short on-off comics- like this one- take less time).

Thank you to those who’ve put up with my ridiculously long absence, and I promise there will be more things coming your way.

Welcome to 2016

Finally, we’re getting closer to the future, which is where I’m from. The future.

The new year has arrived. 2016. So what does that mean exactly?? For some, it might mean another year of stress, for others, an opportunity- a new beginning. For me, 2016 means the last year of my highschool life.

I suppose that means both opportunity and stress. Because while I may be leaving the place that has granted me with sleepless nights, I’ll also be walking away from friends, teachers and something that meant more to me than I am actually aware of… the freedom to do whatever I please.

School for the most part can be stressfully unbearable, but apart from that, it’s actually not too bad. I don’t pay my family’s rent, nor do I have an actual job. I’m going to university in a year’s time and I still mentally feel like a child. I want to draw cartoons for a living, but I know of so few people who’ve actually achieved just this, that I’ve begun looking for a backup.

Concerns fill my every thought. Growing up is scary, and I have to remind myself that it’s normal to be afraid. That’s life. We can’t exactly see into the future. And who really knows? Maybe it’ll be for the better. And even if I do manage to fail getting into university, at least I’ll have my family behind me.

Remember that you don’t have to do everything alone. Ask for help if you need it, or find someone to vent to. Whenever I have something bothering me, I write it down or have a talk with my parents. Believe me, it helps ALOT.

I never really believed in new year’s resolutions, and for that reason, I’m not going to tell ya’ll to write a list of all the things you want to achieve. Instead, I’ll say it’s better if you just take on one day at a time. That way, you won’t feel like you’re working to achieve something that’s impossible or too far into the future. Start with something small and begin there.

For example, I need to get my homework done before school starts… which means… I should stop writing this and get on it…

Happy new years everyone! xx

2016 will be what you make of it. So make it great!!

What did ya’ll do for New Year’s day? Did you stay up and party? Or did you stay at home and watch movies all night, like me?
